Job Description:

The Underwriting & Credit Associate is responsible for rendering credit decisions on incoming applicants consistent with internal policies and guidelines, as well as verifying supporting documentation as submitted by originators and loan processors. The Associate will work in a fast-paced work environment and interact closely with clients, internal teams and various third parties involved in financing transactions.

  • Analyze loan applications to identify any risk issues and/or potential misrepresentations.
  • Review loan files to determine compliance with applicable guidelines, credit worthiness of the applicant and sufficiency of collateral (appraisals, leases, insurance, title reports, credit and background, bank statements, among additional diligence items).
  • Maintain pipeline within the Company’s standards 24 hour turn-around time for upfront and final underwrite.
  • Conduct credit risk reviews of retail/wholesale and correspondent loans and apply needed conditions for mortgage submissions to assure loans meet program/product specifications.
  • Issue loan approvals or escalate files to loan committee when necessary based on CoreVest guidelines.
  • Review files throughout the process as requested by the processor; communicate errors and missing information to processors/originators.
  • Adjust condition sheet in loan operations system with applicable conditions, as well as prepare credit approval memo.
  • Issue final approval uploading all necessary approval documentation into CoreVest’s software systems with appropriate signatures.
  • Work with post-closing department on any stipulations for closed files.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Bachelor Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years of credit and appraisal experience in lending field is required.
  • Basic understanding of mortgage banking software, mortgage underwriting, purchase and refinance transactions.
  • Superior internal and external customer service skills.
  • Self-starter with excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
